A Assembleia Geral reunia-se, ordinariamente, uma vez por ano, para aprovar as contas de gerência e, trienalmente, para eleger o Conselho de Direção.
Competia-lhe, ainda, em reuniões extraordinárias, reformar e alterar os estatutos do orfanato, remetendo o projeto à aprovação do órgão legal competente.
A reforma dos estatutos, aprovada em 1974, atribuía-lhe, também, a competência de deliberar sobre a aquisição onerosa de bens imóveis.
